I was born in California but raised in Idaho since I was 2-years-old. I seemed to display immense empathy growing up and always have had the compulsion to fight for the underdog. Social Work, therefore, was a perfect fit for a career choice and a way of life.
I received my Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work in 1995 from Boise State University and then in 2002 received my Master’s of Social Work degree from Northwest Nazarene University. A short time later I received my Clinical license and began doing psychotherapy. I have worked in the field of mental health for over 26 years and I find it is not only a vocation but a calling to a higher purpose for me. I thrive in working with people who are on a similar journey as myself. Seeking mental wellness and wholeness. Learning how to become our best selves and reaching for our highest potential. Finding healing and health in every way and using our strengths when coping with obstacles. I believe that together we can pave a path that will help you find greater mental wellness, wholeness, and a new way of life. I look forward to joining you on your journey.
My name is Jan Shaughnessy and I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) in Boise, Idaho. I have been counseling the people of Boise, Meridian, Eagle, Star, Nampa, Caldwell and the Treasure Valley for over 20 years. My approach to counseling is sympathetic, and supportive, but also pragmatic. I am happy to work with anyone of any age, cultural background, or sexual orientation. I like to focus my patients on removing psychological and behavioral obstacles that can prevent you from reaching your goals and improving your relationships. I use a method of treatment called CBT – Cognitive Behavioral Therapy to focus my patients on removing psychological and behavioral obstacles.
I am eclectic in the types of therapies I use depending on the person I am working with, and the issue/s presented before us.
